Next will be trying to clone my HDD to the new SSD. I was able to format, set drive letter, yada and can now use. It may have been the ssd pull and reinstall, it may have been the BIOS update (why did I not get this update 4 days ago when I setup the PC?).Īnyway, it's fixed and working. I've been so good to document all steps to help others with this same issue in the future, but at the end I was just "doing things" and crossing fingers.Īll I can say, is it may have been the pool I didn't fully delete or something. Did the update (and 8 others it said were needed) and now I see the drive in Disk Management and was able to format. Then I got an alert from HP that there were critical updates I needed to install. That little screw is a PITA for big hands.

I decided to do a shut-down and try to pull the SSD again as a last ditch effort.

Right-click the space showing as 'unallocated space' and click 'New Simple Volume'. Hold down the Windows key and 'X' for a second and click Disk Management. Now, not sure if this had anything to do with it, but after I deleted the pools, nothing changed in Disk Management. You can make a new volume if the hard drive shows up in Disk Management but not My Computer and appears as unallocated space in Windows 11/10. I also deleted the SSD from Device Manager to see if it would trigger anything. (Thanks to a suggestion from over on Tom's Hardware). I have read that there are caddies on the market which has a jumper switch. So I went back and deleted all the pool settings I setup a while back. Is it possible that the caddy is not supported by the laptop? I never heard about that kind of problem. I'm searching for other solutions for 2 days now and tried everything which I have found but without success.

  • Brought back the caddy to the store and ask for a replacement, same symptoms.
  • Tried to disable/enable legacy boot in BIOS.
  • Tried both HDD/SSD in external USB enclosure and both working fine.
  • Tried only with the SSD in the caddy (result was no bootable device).
  • This is the only place where the HDD is visible.

The strange thing is that in BIOS if I checked the "notebook hard drive" point in the UEFI boot order I can see the SSD (where the Windows installed) and in the Legacy boot order I can see the HDD which is in the caddy. Also checked in device manager and also in disc manager but the HDD is nowhere. For some reason windows 10 doesn't detect the HDD which is in the caddy. My laptop (15-ac105nh) doesn't have extra HDD slot there I bought a HDD Caddy ( ). Besides of this I would like to use my original 1Tb HDD (HGST 5K1000-1000) as a storage. I'm just upgraded my laptop with a 256Gb SSD where I have installed Windows 10.
